Dr. Alan Trites, DC, DBACI
As a child, Dr. Trites was often sick from food allergies, illness and injuries. He was in and out of doctor’s offices almost weekly—often without any advances in his health. As a young teenager, he took notice of what he was eating and became a stand-out distance runner qualifying and competing in the Boston Marathon while in high school. He used running to help get him through college for graduate and post-graduate programs. His program of choice catered to an abundance of information. He knew many others had similar paths and needed answers.
Dr. Trites’ combination of chiropractic and medical knowledge gives him a unique perspective on how to help his patients achieve optimum health. To ensure his patients are getting the most recent and sound advice. He is one of only a handful of doctors in the U.S., completing the three-year program as an Advanced Functional Practitioner through the prestigious Kharrazian Institute. To date, he is the only one in the DFW area doing so. He completed his post-graduate certification through the American Board of Chiropractic Internists in 2006, a certification roughly only 400 of 70,000 U.S. chiropractors have obtained. He also holds certifications in Functional Integration, family practice, applied kinesiology and acupuncture. He is one of only two chiropractors to hold certifications from the American Board of Chiropractic Internists Diplomat and the Clinical Laboratory Scientist through the American Board of Clinical Pathologists.
Dr. Trites has a diverse background in pathology, MT(ASCP) and CLS(NCA), as well as earning a unique diplomat status as a chiropractic internist (DABCI). He is a member of the Gluten Society of America, is board eligible for diplomat status from the American Chiropractic Counsel of Nutrition and the American Board of Clinical Nutrition, and is one of only two Dallas/Ft. Worth area doctors to complete his certification in genetic-based nutrition through wholistic methylation.

Dr. Luke Tate grew up playing sports and had his fair share of injuries. He would go to the chiropractor to get relief and to recover faster. By the time he began college, Dr. Tate knew he wanted to be a chiropractor. His sophomore year he found a kinesiology chiropractor, which led to a paradigm shift. After watching the chiropractor work, he knew that was exactly what he wanted to do.
Since his family suffered from illnesses that could not be resolved with straight chiropractic care, Dr. Tate determined that kinesiology was one of the tools he was going to use to help his family members. On his journey to learn kinesiology, he developed interest in other tools, such as acupuncture, functional integration, and neurology. Finally, Dr. Tate found New Leaf and Dr. Trites; it became immediately clear to him that New Leaf had exactly what he was looking for. He could finally become the doctor he and his family always needed.
Dr. Tate joined the New Leaf team in 2021. He holds a doctor of chiropractic degree and is trained in biosystems integration, 3B laser, kinesiology and acupuncture. He is currently being trained in functional integration, functional neurology and whole-body thermography.

Kayla Steverson, MS, RD/LD
Kayla’s love for nutrition started her freshman year of college when her dad went to see a functional medicine doctor who finally helped him feel better—when traditional doctors couldn’t find anything wrong. She completed her master’s degree in nutrition sciences and dietetic internship The University of Central Oklahoma. She is both a Registered and Licensed Dietitian.
In her nine years working as a registered dietitian, Kayla has always believed in the food is medicine approach. Working with Dr. Trites as a patient further instilled her belief that what we are eating (or not eating) impacts our health in monumental ways, from how we feel to how we think and so much more. Through her own medical concerns, she has experienced the importance of having an individualized plan, as opposed to a one-size-fits-all approach.
Kayla is passionate about simplifying nutrition so you can understand it and truly enjoy the food you are eating. In a world full of overwhelming nutrition advice, she wants to help you right where you are and walk along with you on your path to better health. Outside of work, Kayla enjoys traveling every chance she can get, a good workout, exploring new restaurants and daily walks around town with her husband. Kayla sees patients via virtual appointments.
